Blossom lotus, as it's now called, is my go to place for an absolutely delicious cheap cheerful vego meal. I have been vegetarian for 15 years now and was never really into the vegie meat substitute, but blossom lotus do it so well! nom nom nom
For a yummy quick easy $10 to $15 feast of delight this place is a winner. Me and the boy wonder usually order a mixed plate from the counter with no rice and the spicey "duck" salad from the menu to share. -

This place is called Green Palace for reason. Quick and delicious food at your table or for takeaway at a fast rate. Their vegetables are always fresh which is why people love this place. Each meal is at a reasonable and affordable price.

Green Palace is a great dining option for vegetarians as it is all vegetarian and if you really want to eat meat there you can kind of pretend because they serve vegetarian (pretend) duck, vegetarian sausage, soy chicken, soy pork, basically all kinds of meat, but not.
I am not so into eating pretend meat though, for me the main attraction is the pre- packaged food at the front counter. They have on offer vegetarian buns for $4.00 a packet, But they have packets of sticky cakes with mango, banana or my ultimate favourite: Taro.
Seriously go there for the Taro, it is super delicious. They have sago takeaway desserts too. If you are dining there they also have other exciting desserts such as Sticky Rice with either Black Beans, Durian or Mango, you don't often see Durian around so that is a bit of a special treat. -

I love fake meat. As a delicious food lover of all things meaty and vegetarian, I am always looking out for tasty fake meat and real meat alike.
BF and I stumbled upon this place whilst walking round Newtown; according to Yelp this place has closed, but it was open as of last week, so hopefully this is a mistake on Yelp's part. It's not to be confused with the other fake meat restaurant across the road with the same name... this is for the Thai take-away place.
They have a selection of fake meat dishes in addition to the straight-up just veggie and tofu dishes. We got the choo chee fake chicken, eggplant in garlic sauce, tofu and pumpkin, ginger fake chicken, noodles and rice. You can get three options with rice or noodles for $10, and it is a big plate of food.
Again, my main complaint of buffets, time and again, is the TEMPERATURE of the food. Installing a cheap-as-chips microwave and giving the food a quick zap would make a huge difference. If only I ruled the food world!
The noodles were thick and obviously home-made, but we got the dredges of the pan and although the pleasant young man promised to top us up when new noodles arrived, he obviously forgot. No big deal since there honestly was more food than we could finish.
The best dish was hands-down the tofu and pumpkin stir fry. The fake meat was decent. Would def go back just for the price and their tofu pumpkin dish alone. I am also interested to try the buffet just across the way; it is pay-as-you-go which is perfect for a closet fat-ass who piles too much onto her buffet plate out of excited-ness then leaves half of it anyway! -

This vegan Thai restaurant is one of the very best restaurants on King St, Newtown.
All the dishes are fresh and tasty with generous portions, you will not be hungry I can assure you. All dishes are made with mock meat and relatively hearty. Vegan/vegos will love this place but plenty of my meat eating friends were impressed by it too.
Tip: 'Beef' massaman curry is great, not a big fan of the sweet and sour tofu dish with pineapple. Also it can get busy on weekend nights and they don't have many tables so booking is recommended.
BYO and takeaway is available.
